Exodus 23:2 “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil;”
Seems simple enough, but when I look at the world today I see a devolving society, dividing into groups and subsets. So many groups, each with an agenda to impose their will upon the masses. In the last year we have watched The Arab Spring unfold, the Occupy Wall Street movement embarrass themselves, Europe spiral, and the media implode.
With the constant call to identify our beliefs by our antipathy to dissenters we are truly headed towards (if we are not already there) a great divide in our country. One that could prove to be its undoing. Never in history has the “Us” versus “Them” mentality brought peace or furthered understanding. I have never seen my country so at odds with itself, and it saddens me deeply.
It seems as if those who know tolerance, practice it, while those who don’t demand it.
